Schuyler Square Day 90 Goosebumps

"I thought you were going to be at the library," DeeDee said to her husband Steve as she filled several small bowls with potato chips.

"They close at six o'clock. Budget cuts," Steve explained. "Why are you putting out food for a seance? Ghosts don't eat."

DeeDee slapped his hand as he reached for a chip. "We're having company and I always offer food to our guests. So what are your plans? Are you going to join us or are you going to disappear?"

"I suppose I'll join you," Steve said somewhat reluctantly.

"Oh, good! Then I can hold your hand. To tell you the truth, I'm a little bit spooked by this whole thing."

"I'd be worried about you if you weren't. Honestly, DeeDee, it's not too late to change your mind. We could call the seance off, order a pizza and watch an old Streets of San Francisco dvd."

"But then our house would still be haunted by Mary Austin," DeeDee pointed out. "I'm feeling her presence more and more, aren't you?"

"Not really. Besides, how do you know you'll get rid of her just by having this seance? You might be opening up a can of worms that neither of us is going to want to deal with."

"What are our alternatives?" DeeDee asked as she began a pot of coffee.

"Perhaps we could get used to the peculiar things that happen around here and just live with them?"

DeeDee turned and faced her husband. "Do you honestly and truly want me to cancel? I will if you want me to although everyone will be here in about ten minutes."

"No, go through with it," Steve said, "but just this once, all right? My mother would kill both of us if she knew what you're up to."

"I'll never tell," DeeDee promised. The doorbell rang. "Would you get that, honey? And just think--in an hour or so we should know what really happened to Mary Austin."

Steve headed for the front door. "I can hardly wait," he replied. Pulling the door open, Steve saw Chelsea from next door and Veronica Chandler standing on the porch. "Greetings," he said. "Who's ready to get scared senseless?"
