"Mindy, I think you've really lost your mind this time!" Tyler Schuyler looked at his girlfriend, concern in his eyes. "How do you think you can possibly work at that chemical company and run the newspaper? It's too much. How are we ever going to find any time to be together?"
Mindy was touched by Tyler's concern. Tyler really could be sweet and if he ever got around to asking her to marry him, Mindy would say yes. Probably. Marriage meant forever and she still wasn't sure if she was up for that scenario with Tyler Schuyler. If only his parents had named him 'Jim' or 'Bill.' There was something about that rhyming name that made her giggle at the most inappropriate moments. "It will be fine. I'll work for Kutrate Kemicals during the day and do my newspaper stuff at night. Bo's going to help me. He's learning the ropes quite nicely."
"Bo who?"
"Tyler, you've met Bo," Mindy said patiently. "He works at the paper. Nice looking guy around 35? He's going to handle things while I'm working."
Tyler nodded and Mindy knew that he wasn't really listening to her. Big surprise. Tyler, the heir to the Schuyler fortune, had an unfortunate habit of only half listening to what people were saying. Mindy had noticed that rich people did that a lot. At least the few rich people she'd ever met, namely Tyler and his snooty mother Mavis. "What about me?" Tyler asked.
"What about you what?"
"Do you think I should go to work at Kutrate Kemicals?"
Mindy almost spit out the mouthful of pumpkin seeds she was chewing. When she got control of herself, she asked, "What would you do there? Why would you want to work there? You don't need to work anywhere but Schuyler Enterprises."
"I could help you," Tyler said. "We could be a team."
Mindy was touched but she wasn't tempted to take Tyler up on his offer in the least. Tyler's heart was in the right place but working undercover involved a great deal of finesse. "Thanks, but I don't think so."
"How long do you think your investigation will take?"
"I have no idea. First I have to figure out what they're doing up there, if it's legal and if it's safe. It could take months."
Tyler looked upset. "I'm going to worry about you. How do you know that apple pie scent is covering up something dangerous and deadly?"
Mindy patted his knee absentmindedly. "You're sweet but I'll be fine. I'm a reporter, remember? I'm great at getting to the bottom of things."
