Aging Beautifully

"I like my life. I like me. I am great."

With a groan of pure disgust, Bernard Morton pointed his remote control at the television set and clicked it off. He hated those stupid self help shows. What kind of an idiot needed to say out loud that he was great? Bernard had known he was great before he started kindergarten. As a matter of fact, he'd been born knowing he was great.

Bernard got to his feet and crossed his living room until he stood in front of the mirrored wall that ran behind his bar. Bernard insisted that his decorator use a lot of mirrors when she did his house since few things in life made him happier than looking at his own reflection.

Bernard stared at himself for several long moments. No doubt about it, he was aging beautifully. Bernard had always been told how much he resembled Warren Beatty but he secretly thought he was much better looking than the aging actor. Tall, dark hair lightly streaked with silver, hazel eyes, square chin--maybe he should have gone into acting instead of business. Nah, the money wasn't nearly as good.

He smirked at his reflection. The money was about to get a whole lot better thanks to Old Baldo Fritz and his pure genius invention. Imagine--a spray that made people skinny without dieting or exercising or doing anything other than spritzing it into the air. He was going to make money while he slept once Fat Off hit the shelves.

Of course, Mindy was probably right about the name 'Fat Off' had a somewhat crude ring to it. They'd have to come up with something a little sexier.

Bernard's smirk turned into a frown. Mindy. That little lady had gotten under his skin in a big way but to his amazement the reverse didn't seem to be true. If anything, Mindy seemed a little disgusted by him--possibly even repulsed. Maybe he should drop in on her while she was working overtime with a little reward, a bottle of wine perhaps. And two glasses. If they shared a drink together without any of the other Kutrate Kemical employees hanging around, who knew what might develop?

Whistling, Bernard headed for his bedroom to change into something more street friendly than the flowered silk pajamas he had on. He debated calling Mindy to give her a heads up but quickly decided against it. Surprise was almost always the best tactic to take, especially with women. Kept them on their toes and Bernard had the feeling that with a woman like Mindy Cooper, he needed all the advantages he could get.
