Schuyler Square Day 35 Tiffany's Suspicious

"Of course I'm relieved that Aunt Mavis is home but doesn't the whole thing seem more than a little weird to you?"

Tyler gave Tiffany what she could only think of as a Death Glare. "It isn't weird, Tiffany. Mom's rich and well-known in the area. Somebody kidnapped her for ransom money."

"So how come they never sent a ransom note?" Tiffany questioned.

"They didn't have time. That man who lived in the house where Mom was being kept found her before the kidnappers could send Dad a ransom note."

Tiffany felt sorry for her cousin for being so incredibly stupid. Honestly, for someone in his mid-twenties, Tyler was still living in the Enchanted Forest along with Little Red Riding Hood and a unicorn or two. "That doesn't make sense," she said. "Wouldn't a kidnapper have everything ready before they grabbed their victim? And that reminds me--just where was your mom when she got kidnapped?"

Tyler looked puzzled. "I don't know."

Tiffany managed to refrain from rolling her eyes. "You didn't ask?"

"Tiffany, I don't care where she was. I don't care why there wasn't a ransom note and I don't really care who's behind all of this. It's over and that's what matters. Mom's back home again."

Tiffany didn't say anything but she had her own idea of where her aunt might have been before she vanished: at the County Line Inn with Officer Van Husen. If only Tiffany had hung around for a little while longer she might have seen who had broken into her motel room and grabbed her. That had to have been where Aunt Mavis was. It wasn't like the woman worked or did anything useful with her day. Besides, that's where she'd been when Tiffany had left the other night. For a moment, she toyed with the idea of telling Tyler about what his mother was really up to but she didn't. After all, he had talked to her about his own suspicions over his mom and Officer Van Husen. But Tiffany was pretty sure that her cousin would be totally incapable of handling the truth. Tyler was really such a baby. He'd be destroyed if he knew Mommy Dearest was bopping a cop. It would be like telling Bambi that his real mother was a pole dancer. "You're right," she finally said. "All that matters is that Aunt Mavis is back home."

"Right," Tyler agreed, looking relieved. "Now let's just drop it."

"Sure," Tiffany said but she was lying. Dropping it was the very last thing Tiffany intended to do.
But just because Tiffany wasn't bursting her cousin's pathetic little bubble world didn't mean that she planned on stopping. She  had her eye on a very nice Nissan that she was positive Aunt Mavis would love to give her on her very next birthday, with the proper coaxing, of course.
